Innovative auxiliary light relay that can take the ignition signal to the cable set wirelessly from the car's OBD-II port.

NOTE: If you use the XBB PowerUnit together with a relay cable set from Purelux, you need to change the position of the earth cable (black cable) in the relay socket of the relay set so that the XBB's earth pin ends up correctly, as the relay cable set from Purelux and XBB follow different standards.

The XBB OBD Dongle & PowerUnit is an innovative relay and control unit that can take the ignition signal wirelessly directly from the Canbus system. Many newer vehicles that have high beams with LED or Xenon are equipped with Canbus, which means that it is not possible to take the ignition signal to the auxiliary lights directly from the power cable of the high beams. With this device, you can control the auxiliary light through a control unit that you connect directly to the car's OBD-II port. It takes the high beam signal directly from the OBD port and sends the information wirelessly to the relay, which then controls the auxiliary light based on this signal.

If you know your car is equipped with Canbus, or if connecting the auxiliary lights with a normal relay kit does not work, this control unit is an excellent solution to make the auxiliary lights work. You connect the XBB OBD Dongle control unit to the car's OBD port, whereupon it takes the ignition signal directly from the car's Canbus and sends it wirelessly to the XBB PowerUnit relay, which you connect to the standard relay cable set. XBB OBD Dongle and XBB PowerUnit thus send information wirelessly between each other, which means you don't have to run cables into the passenger compartment or engine compartment.

In the XBB app, which can be downloaded to the mobile phone, you can choose which car model you want to mount additional lights on, and all the necessary information is sent via the mobile phone to the XBB Dongle control unit. The app is currently only available for Android phones, and can be downloaded via Google Play (an iPhone version is coming in the future).

Note! You can buy either just the Dongle & PowerUnit, or a complete set, which includes not only the relay but also the XBB Smart Button, which can be used to control additional lights wirelessly via Bluetooth! You can read more about Smart Button here: XBB Smart Button.

Quick guide

Connect the XBB Dongle (the controller) to the car's OBD port. This means that the high beam signal is taken directly from the OBD port and the information is sent wirelessly to the relay (PowerUnit), which controls the auxiliary lights based on this signal.

The manufacturer recommends that the relay be installed in an upright position, so that water and moisture cannot enter the relay.

Connection of relay cable set

ATTENTION! To get an optimal response time, you should place the PowerUnit relay as close as possible to the XBB Dongle.

Remove the fuse from the relay harness and replace the existing relay with the PowerUnit relay. Locate the car's battery or other power source in the engine compartment, and select a suitable place to connect the positive terminal. If the battery is not in the engine compartment, but instead in e.g. the passenger compartment or the trunk, there is still often a power source in the engine compartment that provides continuous voltage. The cable is connected with a ring cable lug, either under the nut of the locking bolt on the positive pole of the battery, or the corresponding place on the power source. Loosen the bolt, place the plus cable on the bolt and tighten.

Then you connect the negative cable, either to the negative pole of the battery (in the same way as to the positive pole) or to some place on the car's body where the cable set can be grounded. We recommend connection to the body.

On a complete relay wiring kit there is often a specific cable to take the ignition signal (on Purelux wiring kits this is blue). In this case it does not need to be plugged in, so cut off the exposed copper surface at the end of the cable and protect the end of the cable with electrical tape.

When the wiring is complete, put the fuse back on the wiring harness and connect the auxiliary light cable to the relay wiring harness connector. Then test the function of the light. If everything works as it should, you can tie the remaining cables together with cable ties and secure the cable bundle in a moisture-protected place in the engine compartment.
