  1. On hyvä. Todella helppo asentaa. Parasta että voi muuttaa "kytkentöjä" myöhemmin. Saa vaihdettua minkä toiminnon herätteellä syttyy.

An innovative switching device that allows Tesla Model S, 3, X and Y cars to wirelessly grab the excitation current for the wiring harness of the additional light directly from the car's OBD-II port.

XBB OBD Dongle & PowerUnit is an innovative relay + control device combination that can be triggered wirelessly from the CAN bus. In many new cars with LED or Xenon high beams, the control of the additional lights can be implemented via the CAN bus, so that the excitation current for the traditional relay wiring set cannot be tapped directly from the bulb's power cord, as in the case of a halogen bulb. In this case, the control of the additional lights can be implemented with the help of a control device that can be placed in the OBD-II port of this car, which captures the high beam signal directly from the OBD port and sends the information wirelessly to a relay connected to the relay wiring harness, which in turn controls the additional lights according to this signal. This relay is intended for Tesla Model S and Model X cars.

So if you know that your car's lights are CAN-controlled, or the traditional connection with a relay wiring harness does not work, this switching device is an excellent choice for connecting additional lights. The XBB OBD Dongle control device, which can be inserted into the car's OBD port, receives the wake-up data directly from the car's CAN bus and sends it wirelessly to the XBB PowerUnit relay that can be connected to the normal relay wiring harness (can be connected instead of the wiring harness's standard relay). The XBB OBD Dongle and the XBB PowerUnit relay therefore talk to each other wirelessly, so there is no need to run any wires between the engine room and the interior of the car.

From the XBB application that can be downloaded to the phone, you can select the car make and model where you are installing additional lights, after which the information is sent to the XBB Dongle control device using the phone. The app is currently only available for Android phones and can be downloaded from Google Play (coming later for iPhones as well).

NOTE! The relay can also be replaced by many ready-made wiring harness relays, e.g. Purelux's relay wiring harness, but in this case the order of the power and ground wires in the wiring harness must be checked (see connection order on top of the relay). In the majority of wiring harnesses, including Purelux, the ground and excitation wires are in the wrong direction compared to the smart relay, and their place must be changed, i.e. the connections must be made yourself. However, ready-made wires can be used from the wiring harness.

Compatibility, product options

Quick guide

The installation instructions for the MODEL 3 can be found here: Tesla Model 3, additional light installation instructions

NOTE! The relay can only withstand 180W light (15A @12V), but even more powerful lights can be connected with it with a little additional installation. See instructions here: Dongle installation for lights with more than 180W power

Insert the XBB Dongle into the vehicle's OBD port. This captures the high beam signal directly from the OBD port and sends the information wirelessly to the relay (PowerUnit), which in turn controls the additional lights according to this signal.

Connection of wires

For optimal response time, place the PowerUnit relay as close as possible to the XBB Dongle.

Locate the car battery or the power outlet in the engine room, and find a suitable place to connect the plus pole. If the battery is not in the engine compartment, but for example in the passenger compartment or the rear container, there is usually a current outlet in the engine room, which receives constant voltage. Connect the wire either to the plus pole of the battery, or to the corresponding place in the power outlet. Connect the other end of the wire to the 12-24V pin marked on the relay (a fuse should be inserted).

After that, the relay's minus pole (GND) is either connected to the battery's minus pole (corresponding to the plus pole, under the nut/bolt) or to something that meets the car body, from where the wiring harness can be grounded. We recommend connecting this to the chassis.

After the connections have been made, connect the power cord of the additional light to the connector of the relay harness (Output 1) and the grounding cord to the car body. Test the functionality of the lights. If everything is in order, bundle the extra wires into a neat bundle and attach the wire bundle to a suitable, moisture-protected place in the machine room.
